Heart Art: Make a Modern Valentine's Mural

Today, interior stylist and decorator Kirsten Grove shares a DIY valentine for expressing your love in a big way!  This modern, geometric heart mural perfectly reflects Kirsten’s beautiful design aesthetic that you can catch a glimpse of on her décor blog Simply Grove, which was born six years ago as a creative outlet that balanced work and motherhood.

Kirsten and her family are big believers in helping the planet stay clean. “My daughter always gets upset when people liter and usually exclaims (before I can catch her) ‘It's the only world that we have!’ I'm also an advocate for reclaiming and reusing furniture and decor. You see that passion for reclaimed items throughout my blog,” relates Kirsten.

Exploring her passion for using what you have on hand at home, Kirsten and her son Ethan decided to make this heart mural for her daughter and his sister Eden Jo one day when she was napping. “She is a valentine romantic and loves anything with hearts, so she was thrilled when she woke up and saw the mural.,” says Kirsten. “She also loves posing so this is the perfect backdrop for her and Ethan!” We love the enthusiasm of kids.

To make your own heart mural, here’s what Kirsten says:

The DIY is a heart mural made from construction paper that we already had at home and washi tape (you can use any colors and painter’s tape, too). You just cut each piece of construction paper in half diagonally. I started by marking a straight line with a level and chalk. I then started placing them on the wall to create a heart shape. There really was no rhyme or reason. I just played with the shape a bit. My son had a blast helping me create this art piece!
