I’m a huge fan of The Honest Co. and I forever will be. Keep up the good work! These things happen and are apart of life. But my life is better because of you guys!
    XOXO

    • Michele McLaughlin

I agree! Honest products have replaced most others in my house and that’s not changing. I appreciate that they would voluntarily recall the product out of precaution rather than wait to see if any problems arise. Honesty is refreshing!

  • Things like this happen. Thanks for taking precautions! Honesty at its best 👌❤

  • Ann I

    Hello Mr. Gavigan,
Thank you for your candor. I am a huge fan of Honest products, and don’t use any other brand of diapers for my baby girl. However, you may want to review your “Soothing” bottom wash. My baby SCREAMED when I used it on her bottom one day. She had a diaper rash that I didn’t see. Imagine if a parent tried to “soothe” a severe diaper rash with your bottom wash. I worry about the suffering of that poor child. Please… either change the name of the product or change the ingredients. Thank you.

    • Liz

My daughter does have a diaper rash & I used the bottom wash & she screamed so bad that I ran with to the sink to wash it off.
      Why would it burn her?

      • Maribel GR

Same thing happened here… just when i used was without my baby having a diaper rash, on regular healthy skin, and still he cried of severe discomfort. Very disappointed with the “soothing” wash.

        • Liz

I’ve almost turned my household products to Honest products but so far the baby products it’s been disappointing

        • We’re sorry to hear about your little one’s reaction, Maribel, and we hope your child is feeling better. I also quit using the wash after my granddaughter instantly screamed in
pain. Can I send it back with the baby
powder ? Can I empty both containers? The box is heavy otherwise and will cost more postage.

      • Ann I

It contains Witch Hazel, which is an astringent.

      • Hi Liz, we’re sorry to hear about your little one’s reaction, Ann, and we hope your child is feeling better. We take all product feedback seriously, and thank you for allowing us the opportunity to explain what may be going on. We want to point out that like a shampoo, or a soap, this is meant to be a “wash”, so it should be rinsed off and not left on the skin. We recommend that you spray on bottoms & diaper area during changes and wipe clean with Honest Wipes or a damp, soft cloth. That said, we recognize that each individual and their body is unique, and we provide a complete list of all of our ingredients on each product label to help our members purchase with confidence. We would encourage you to bring this ingredient list of our soothing bottom wash to your child’s physician as they know your child’s medical history best. • mandy

I think it’s the fact that it’s a cold spray that they scream Cuz if I spray mine she screams but if i spray it on a cloth then wipe her she’s fine.

      • Sabrina Kim

I tried it on myself, and it burns. If your baby screams it’s because it burns. Please don’t use it on her 🙁

    • Cherrie

I had this happen as well! My son had some mild redness so I used the bottom wash (which I had used many times before) and he cried and squirmed like it stung him. We had been using the bottle for a while and I note that the color of the wash has darkened. Haven’t used it since that day.

Same thing happened to us as well! I don’t even use it anymore because she SCREAMS so loud when I put it on her bottom and she has a little rash 🙁 tossed it!

Zinc oxide always for dipper rash if it’s so bad &painful can be fungal & you need a rx. So maby a trip to the pediatrician unfortunately

    • Kristin

The same thing happened to my son, I felt so bad 🙁 He didn’t have a rash though, just a little dry skin so I thought it would help but he just screamed and cried so I haven’t tried it again since!

Ann, my daughter too has wince and cried when using the soothing bottom cleanser. I thought it was just her suffering from the product.

  • Candice Horvath

I’ve been using this powder on my son for the last two months. He is now 3m old and has an unexplained, undiagnosed rash. Hoping this contaminated powder is not the cause. Does Honest have any suggestions on how I proceed in ruling this out?

    • Heather

Stop using it that’s the only way to rule out if it is the power. I must say most companies just roll out there items. This mishap was cough because they con tinge to test their products. That is not recommended by our government yet the honest company continues to do it which is a large cost. You’d never find Johnson &Johnson doing that.

      • Candice Horvath

        Heather,
I obviously will not be using a recalled product on my child. If he has been affected by a live microorganism within the powder it could possibly need to be treated with an antibiotic to kill the infection. I wasn’t posting to dispute whether or not Honest is a better company than J&J. I simply want to find out what is causing the skin rash on my child. I assume Honest has more info on the matter. I have contacted my pediatrician and will be calling the company directly for answers today.
        Best,
        Candice

      • Erwin Alber

I would avoid using powder altogether.

Same issue with my 16m old son. I now believe the powder has caused his mysterious rash. It looks different than any diaper rash he has had. Now the “rash” is starting to crawl up towards his belly. Started using this product 2 months ago as well. We need more information on what the possible health concerns are!

thanks for posting this …at least I know now what is going on with my baby, I don’t even care about a refund what I need to know is what kind of infection is it??? my pediatrician couldn’t tell what was wrong, she started with red patches in her skin and as she felt un comfortable I put more powder, and is actually her favorite product she is always pouring powder on her body after a bath, after the patches the rash just spread all over her torso and arms and her skin right now is all flaky like crocodile 🙁 she doesn’t stand to be with clothes on… please give more info.. thanks.

    • Marsha Gliessner

I have called about exactly what you are asking for and was told to take the powder to my pediatrician and consult with them about this if we have further concerns.

    • Comfort Ezeala

This is the exact same condition going on with my 5 months old skin. Her skin is so flaky it feels like crocodile skin with rashes on her belly, back arms and legs. Please did you find out what kind of infection this is and what medication did her pediatrician recommended?

    • Erwin Alber

Be careful – baby powder can cause respiratory problems if inhaled.

  • Meaghan Corrigan

My son had this rash too! I have been using the powder. I have two bottles of it. Do you send a label or do we have to pay for the shipping? That’s not really worth it! Usually if it is a recalled product the company holds them self responsible and pays for the return shipping and refund. Please explain this in further. Every time I call I’m on hold for an hour.

  • Nicki-Lee

Yea I emailed and got nothing back either and whenever I call it’s such a long wait!

This is so heart breaking to hear about the baby powder I’ve been using on my daughter for the past 2 yrs. Thinking that it is one of the best organic powder. For as long as I can remember She started getting rashes on her body. It eventually spread everywhere. We thought it was eczema. Tried to treat it constantly but never went away. So this could be the problem from using this product. I hope if this is the case there better be a solution to treating her. I will be talking to the doctor and contacting the company about my concern.

    • Ursula

I am experiencing the same with my child. I called the company numerous times and no one will release the info about the type of microorganisms. It’s very concerning and I am very disappointed that those calling with these concerns aren’t given any more information. I was told to consult with my doctor, which I am. This was after speaking with 4 people after numerous hours on hold over a period of a week.

  • Lisa

Reading some of your claims, I now want answers also to what skin infection this has caused. I emailed the company and called the number they gave me. There was no answer, just said to leave a message which I did with no call back yet. I emailed again and got the same message to call. My grandson started with a diaper rash that became bad enough to warrant a doctor visit. This rash spread to the trunk of his body and thighs. We were told to use some creams but don’t know what the problem is. He still has the diaper rash and body rash. HELP US HERE HONEST COMPANY. Like I said in my email maybe it’s not your product but now I’m starting to wonder if it is with all these claims with the same issues. All we want is to heal our babies. If anyone on here has any findings or has helped heal their babies skin let me know.

    • Ursula

Not sure yet if our issues are related but I am working with a doctor to find out. Sad that more information isn’t being provided to those people having issues. Hope your grandson gets better soon.

      • Lisa

Thank you. My daughter only has vaccinations that are mandatory for him. I don’t think this skin outbreak had anything to do with his vaccines, but you never know. I had used this powder sparingly on him and didn’t realize till after the recall and told my daughter that I found she was using it on him quite often. We are starting new creams suggested by his pediatrician. As soon as the rash disappears and we discontinue treatment the rash just returns. I’m hoping we all can find answers. Keep us posted.

    • Erwin Alber

Rashes and eczema can also be an adverse effect caused by vaccinations.
I suggest you consult a homeopath and avoid future vaccinations. Keeping one’s child vaccine-free is in my opinion the only safe and sane option.

      • Ursula

That’s not the only sane choice, especially since there are options for different vaccine manufacturers. Lisa, please consult your doctor or homeopath before making that decision. We weighed having vaccines and decided to have them. That was the most responsible choice for us. Vaccine free is causing recurrence of disease. There are options such as delayed schedules and different manufacturers you can discuss with your doctors. You can even choose some and forego others. And my guess would be the rash is probably not related to vaccines, but your doctor could tell you.

        • Erwin Alber

It is obviously a matter of personal choice Ursula, but there is absolutely NO WAY I would let anyone with a vaccine of any kind come near me or any child of mine. I have studied vaccination for over 20 years and have long ago arrived at the conclusion that vaccines are a dangerous fraud.

Even doctors don’t all agree that vaccines are beneficial, so why should parents trust what doctors say when even some doctors advise against vaccination?

There is a pertussis outbreak in my neighborhood. Children are seriously ill here thanks to antivaccers. I have two babies that are too young to have been fully vaccinated and just had to get nasal swabs for it. Thanks for putting my kids at risk because you can’t understand history or statistics. You’ve clearly never seen a child suffering (dying) from these diseases. I respect your right to decide for yourself, but also hold all those who choose not to vaccinate fully responsible for the suffering they cause.

          • Erwin Alber

As far as I am concerned, the whooping cough vaccine is like all other vaccines useless and dangerous and there is no way I would subject any child of mine to this medical fraud and child abuse.

Also, the fact that there are pertussis outbreaks is a consequence of vaccine failure rather than the fault f non-vaccinating parents. Referring to the outbreaks, even this pro-vaccination article admits as much:

“Various explanations have been suggested — the protection afforded by the vaccine wanes over
time; the bacterium has evolved to evade immunity; vaccine coverage has not been wide enough. But this study has found that although all these factors probably contribute, asymptomatic transmission may be the most
important cause of all. The study is in BMC Medicine.

Benjamin M. Althouse and Samuel V. Scarpino, postdoctoral fellows at the Santa Fe Institute, a nonprofit research center, tracked infections through three time
periods: 1920-45, when no vaccination was available; 1946-2005, when the whole cell vaccine was used; and 2006-13, when the whole cell vaccine was replaced with the acellular version. (The whole-cell vaccine produced rare but sometimes serious side effects, and is no longer in use in the United States.)

Using epidemiological evidence and genomic analyses of the bacterium, Dr. Althouse and Dr. Scarpino conclude that the switch to the acellular vaccine from the more
effective whole-cell vaccine accounts for the recent increase in incidence. In addition, they say, the vaccine complicates estimates of prevalence by hiding many infections.

The authors stress that the acellular vaccine is the best we have, and that vaccine coverage should be as high as possible. But asymptomatic transmission explains why “cocooning” — vaccinating all those who come in contact
with babies too young to be vaccinated — does not work.”

            https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/06/29/symptom-free-carriers-may-be-spreading-whooping-cough/

So, even if vaccinated, people may still be carriers of the disease and spread whooping cough, infecting others, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not.

I hope that your children won’t get whooping cough, but just in case they do I suggest you use the vitamin C treatment recommended by Dr Suzanne Humphries.

Sorry to hear about your grandson.
I thought to let you know that I as an adult choose to use this product also.
Based on it being organic and the ingredients it was an alternative for me .
However last spring when I first started using it I developed a few small size rash spots. Then it continued to spread around my trunk sparring my legs and arms. After many doctors as well as dermatologist visits it was concluded to be an infection of undetermined origin. I had discontinued useing the product several weeks after these rashes because of all the creams prescribed by the doctors . I refused antibiotics and antiviral medications though offered.
I cannot say just how over whelming this experience was emotionally.
The rashes lasted the course of 3 months before starting to fade .
Very unsettling that consumers are not getting more detailed information regarding the bacteria strains and possible long term effects.
Until this recall I was completely bewildered as to the source of my rashes last year… now I firmly believe it was this product I introduced to my hygiene regime. Sadly we are left in the dark by this company .

I love honest too. But now to figure out what to replace all my powder with. I’m thinking JOHNSONS PURE CORN STARCH BABY POWDER, ALOE & VITAMIN E. Sorry for all caps – was a cut and paste. Any other suggestions?

Babytime by Episencial. Great reviews on EWG and also has probiotics. Amazon carries it or you can order directly.

      Just use pure cornstarch
